Ok this is getting ridiculous, We have 96 pages worth of members and at least 70 of them are filled with unactivated spam accounts. We need a way to stop this.

Make it so one person can only make 2 accounts.

I don't think it's that easy magmus, something to do with i.p address, even if chaos could sort it out so that there is only 2 accounts per i.p there are a multitude of ways to get around that

There are multiple ways to reset your IP address, so an IP ban wouldn't work.

RE: spam bot prevention - blueapplepiedude - 01-15-2013

yeah you could use proxys and stuff.

Better to try something than nothing I suppose.

Can we just selectively delete them? Perhaps there is a plugin for our forum system. Blackchaos would know the best. I'll PM him to come visit this thread.

Basically, the spam bots are the ones who have not activated their e-mail addresses. I can simply delete those members in our database who have not activated their e-mail addresses. As for preventing them, we already have measures in place but nothing is fool proof. If not for these measures, we would probably receive maybe 15-20 spam members per day.

Well, at the end of the month, we could just have a cleanout of all the spammers.
