The server lagging out. - badwin777 - 01-27-2014

Recently (ie: the past few weeks) I have been playing on the server and I have noticed that the server lags out frequently. I have only noticed this when I have been playing at night, around 8-11pm (eastern standard time). It is very annoying to be playing and then be kicked out of the server, then to wait five minutes before you can even join back. I have done some research and found that it is not my internet, but the server's internet/host. I also have some suggestions that may help this problem..

If the server is on a "shared" type host, the other server might have a lot of traffic at night, eating up bandwidth and CPU/RAM priority. To fix the problem, maybe we should consider hosting the server on a "dedicated" type host, so that all of the host computer's resources go into CFEW.
Another option is to increase the amount of RAM on the server or upgrade the processor, along with getting more bandwidth this could also solve the problem.

I am trying to bring this to the attention of the Op's, so that the problem can be fixed and everyone will be happy.

Moving this to the Help Needed section.

Could you describe what kind of error you are receiving?

Yeah this has been happening all day the server sort of crashes and won't start back up till 5 or so minutes later

Could you describe what error message you receive?

RE: The server lagging out. - Sim7864 - 01-27-2014

You just get the normal error message you get when you lose connection to the server
To see what this is go into a minecraft server and disconnect to the internet and if you get kicked that error message is the same error message you get when the server "crashes".

Sometimes I get "Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.timeout.ReadTimeoutException"

Another really common one is Internal Exception: java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Those are the ones i get

Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.timeout.ReadTimeoutException

As badwin mentioned, you should try switching to a dedicated host...

Here's one: http://snowstormservers.com/
That was my server's host... Their servers have great specs... You can definitely have an uptime of over 95%

Also, in case of an outage, they will immediately troubleshoot, and fix it within 2 days...

RE: The server lagging out. - Indrae - 01-28-2014

For the size server that we are dealing with, a dedicated server just doesn't make sense from a cost standpoint.
