Net Neutrality - MudsyKipsy - 11-23-2017

You've probably heard about it on Youtube, from your friends, or in game. As you guys might know, the internet is currently under attack. They want to get rid of net neutrality and control our internet use. I decided to make this thread to inform you guys about this and to spread the word further about this ridiculous idea as everyone here loves the internet.

What is Net neutrality?

Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers and governments regulating most of the Internet must treat all data on the Internet  the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication. For instance, under these principles, internet service providers are unable to intentionally block, slow down or charge money for specific websites and online content.

Their goal

they want to get rid of Net neutrality, which means that cable companies get control over what sites you can visit, and what not. They can let you pay extra to visit certain websites in a certain package (For example: entertainment package contains Youtube and Netflix and the gaming package contains Steam and twitch) And slow down sites, let you charge for them or even completely block it. This fight was going on in September as well, but now the FCC chairman announced a plan to repeal and to draw back a lot of net neutrality laws.

What does this mean to you

This means that you will have to start paying extra before you'll be able to visit your favorite site or you might be even blocked from them. Sites might also take an eternity to load for you. They can control pretty much everything about the internet.

How can we stop this?

It's really important to spread the word, let people know what's going on so they can join as well and stop this ridiculous plan. Yes 1 voice might not say much, but all of us together will. There are also more things you could do, however i keep that up to you to explore. You could use the links below to get more information on how you can help.

Normally i don't post these types of things on the forums, but this could change the entire internet on how we use it if this plan goes trough, internet would become like cable TV: your favorite Youtubers can't keep uploading anymore, your online games will be really slow because your company doesn't support it and more.  And i know that this affects US for now, but if this actually goes trough..then i doubt that it will only stay at US. Plus everyone should be able to access the internet for free, no matter where you live.

Thank you guys for taking your time to read this and hope that this won't get trough.

RE: Net Neutrality - XxOblivion - 12-15-2017

It still has to go through court.

RE: Net Neutrality - Asonia - 12-16-2017

It must go through Congress, not court; however, it won't majorly effect any of us simply because it will cost more for internet service providers to block and restrict certain websites than it will to simply keep them the same. The US senate consists of a 49 Democrat and 51 Republican split. That means that any two deviations from the Republican party (Mostly likely Senator McCain and Paul) will vote in favor of keeping net neutrality.
