RE: My Ban Appeal - 9bjames - 03-19-2012
Alright, I'll paste it then. XD
I probably also went off topic a bit too, I do that when I'm sleepy... and I have been pretty sleepy lately, lol.
So okay, here's how it would have looked like...
(same start as before...)
George, forgiving and forgetting...
(continues on as normal where this spoiler is)is something that isn't very easily done. Definitely not when trust has been broken several times.
I think if you do end up being unbanned at all, we are first going to need some time.
Maybe more discussion, maybe some more time to see if you have actually matured.
Most of the people are against you being unbanned, and I personally am against you being unbanned right now as well. I feel more nuetral about this than anything. I know others are tired of this, and just agree that this case should be closed completely. As I have said before, I disagree with this. I think it shouldn't completely close forever because of the reasons I've already said. I mean on one hand what you did was very wrong; you abused the trust of the community, and you only have yourself to blame for it, but on the other, this is a game we are talking about, and people will end up making stupid mistakes when they're young. It doesn't really mean they should be banned forever for it, ...but what I do understand is an unban should only be given if everyone is fine with it, and of course with certain conditions.
(and this is all the stuff I cut out)
To be honest, I try to be a forgiving and understanding person. Some people have probably facepalmed at when I've said second chances should be given, due to their feelings that the person in question would probably just break the rules again, but my own feelings are that if they break the rules again, they can just be banned once more. As OPs, we should show some sort of understanding, give the benefit of the doubt when there is chance for reform, and really expect other players to make mistakes again without being being smug about it, or taking it personally. What kind of crappy OPs would we be if we just banned on site and didn't let anyone back over a stupid mistake they made? The fact that we are so forgiving is probably one of this server's strong points, even if some people don't like or agree with it so much.
In this case, yes, George has made plenty of mistakes, enough to warrant him staying banned for at least a long while, but overall is what he did overly damaging? Is it anything that cannot be recovered or regained? It may seem hard to get over it, but really, for what he did, bridges can be remade. He never had intention for harm; he lied, he cheated, he really acted disgracefully, as well as acted disrespectfully when confronted... but as a previous member of our community, he did not do anything to try and harm us on purpose.
In a way, we are like a family (yeah, we are). We probably don't always get on together, in fact a lot of the members definitely don't, but we shouldn't just shut someone out from our community forever because of something they did wrong which they regret.
So leave it a while... maybe another few months, and see how you feel later. But instead of closing this case completely, try to actually show some caring. Try to show some empathy. Don't just do the cold, uncaring thing of saying it isn't your problem, because you guys are OPs, it's your job to give it some thought now and then. I know you won't all see eye to eye with this view point of mine, and that really isn't a concern of my own. In the long run, if you still feel George should stay banned, then he will stay banned... but keep your mind open... Even though you might not agree with it right now, it's very possible that you may just change your mind later. If not, then just say so when it comes to it.
Either way, herping and derping asside... I think I didn't even finish writing with all of that... but instead decided it'd be better to wrap it up faster. Generally the same point without all the hippie caring part, lol (seriously though... we'z all a family guys... we gotz to stick together). As for that "exactly" remark justin, I never said that I felt otherwise from the beginning. I pretty much took it as a given, and thought it would be pretty much evident that an apology wouldn't be enough, but it was easier to let you guys say that instead, since it's a group decision anyway. =P
I mean come on, I was the one who even remade the whole post about George's ban from when we moved over to the new forum. My feelings haven't changed greatly since then.
Just give it time. I'm not trying to get him unbanned, I'm only really trying to be fair here. (just to say it clearly through all of the garbled text i tend to write)
I just believe it isn't fair to close this down forever, whilst still feeling the ban should at least stick for now...
Unrelated Edit- I just realised... this is my 251st post...
Unrelated trivia, first pokemon game I played was pokemon gold...
I never want to post again... D:
