Admin Code of Conduct - Indrae - 09-08-2012 This is something that Jeff, Pizza, and I have discussed a little bit. Essentially, what I think we should write up is a Code of Conduct/Ethics that the community expects the admins to follow and uphold. For example, one thing I feel strongly about is that admins should avoid reading through private messages between players. If one of the players complains about the content of the message(s) sent by the other player, the admin would be justified in reading through the PMs between those two players. In any other case, an admin should respect the players' right to privacy. Related to the subject above, any IP addresses obtained by looking through the server log should be removed if the contents of the section of the log concerned is to be made public. Additionally, an admin should refrain from using their permissions and abilities in order to gain an unfair advantage over other players. This would involve spawning items to sell or give to other players or the server shop, and any other conceivable instance. These are the two that I can think of right off the top of my head. I would love to hear more ideas and suggestions. This is your server, let us know what you expect of us. RE: Admin Code of Conduct - Eaglefighter - 09-08-2012 obvious rule: admins do not stand above the rules and are not allowed to change or bend the rules without consulting the other admins. RE: Admin Code of Conduct - BlackChaos - 09-08-2012 RE: Admin Code of Conduct - Indrae - 09-14-2012 Alright, so so far we have the no reading private messages and revealing IPs thing, refraining from using permissions for an unfair advantage, and no standing above the rules/changing them without consultation. What else does everyone think should be added? RE: Admin Code of Conduct - Aeonex - 09-18-2012 RE: Admin Code of Conduct - Indrae - 09-18-2012 I agree with you Aeonex. A leader shouldn't need a Code of Conduct. I don't think that Pizza, Jeff, or I (and certainly not Clownfish) will end up needing this Code of Conduct. However, I still think we should complete it. I suppose that my original intention was that this could be a place where players could express their opinions on the kind of leaders that they want. In addition to that, it is not so much a countermeasure to prevent abuse of power by the admin team, but a reassurance to the average player that they are respected as equals. I'd like to thank you for your inout. Most of what I talk about is theory at this point. You however are well versed on the trials and tribulations of adminship, and for that reason, your input is invaluable. |
