Should We Get a Ventrilo Server?

Voice chat can be an indispensable part of any community. It allows quick and easy communication, and allows people to express ideas that are hard to convey through text alone. That is why I suggest that we buy a Ventrilo (or Vent) server. For those who don't know what Ventrilo is, it is a program that allows voice communication over the internet. It's what WoW guilds use to communicate while they are playing. I personally think this would be a great addition to our server.

The only problem is that in order to be able to use Ventrilo, we have to rent a server. I don't want to burden Clownfish with this (he's probably already put in enough of his own money into server improvements). That's why I think it would be great if we could get donations for this.

For me, I am saying no. I have seen peoples identities stolen using this, that and I don't enjoy talkin to people I have never met in real life.

People who feel awkward about talking over the internet don't have to use it.
On the other hand it may lead to some people being left out if others start to ignore text chat while using voice chat... it does happen.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. It wouldn't replace chat, but would just be another way to communicate. My experience using it is that people who don't use voice chat usually aren't ignored.

The point of voice chat is being able to chat with people without having to type. Therefore, they keep their MC window open and can talk to multiple people at once.

I already understand that fugg, I know how it all works. The only thing is when people talk to people through voice, it becomes harder to concentrate on chat through text (guess it depends how good or bad you are at multitasking).
This is coming from my own experience though from people being on skype while playing minecraft. It's not that they stop playing and go straight to skype, they just zone out from ingame chat while continuing to play/ build, and take a while to notice anything that's being said to them ingame. ._.

I say we give it a try atleast using some free server before having clownfish purchase a private one.
