I don't know how many of you have seen the video yet so here's the link (I totally didn't cry in joy the first time I saw it... there was a bit of dust in my eye... or someone was chopping onions....): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sj2iQyBTQs
So basically, Nintendo is working with former Google developers to create a Pokémon game for Android and iOS, which will be released in 2016. It will require you to go to real life locations, while playing on your phone, to find and potentially catch Pokémon. They're also building their own Bluetooth smart watch, called Pokémon Go Plus which will allow you to be able to catch Pokémon without actually using your phone constantly. If a vitual Pokémon was hanging around near you, it will light up and buzz. The watch is not essential of course, but is designed to make everything a smoother experience. It also doesn't actually have to be worn as a watch, and can be clipped on to pockets.
My thoughts is that this is going to be a very cool and interesting game. It won't mean just staying at home in your room all day on your console collecting Pokémon, but instead you'll be able to be outside yet still enjoy the experience that the game gives you. There have been concerns about it increasing the time people spend looking at their phones and I can see this being a problem with it, but they introduced the Pokémon Go Plus to hopefully combat and reduce the amount of screen time people will get. The game is initially free-to-play which is awesome, however there are some in-app purchases so could be an unfair advantage given to some.
So, will I be getting the game on my phone?
I think the answer to that is yes. I'm really intrigued as to how this game is going to work and want to experience it. I highly doubt I'll be paying to play, but there's probably going to be many people out there that won't. I think that one of the issues with gaming is you kinda have to stay inside, this is going to introduce the concept of the outside world to many people =P (yes I know the story line is frankly quite terrible, but you can trust me the graphics are second to none, haha), as you're going to have to explore or go places to catch Pokémon.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on the game and giving you guys some info on it. Feel free to post your thoughts and possible queries.
