Very interesting suggestion, fire.
Something I've realized is that user shops will never truly be obsolete unless the server shop sells literally every item in the game. That said, from what I understand, the server shop plans on only selling select items. Having a server shop with a complete inventory would put a huge burden on the admins as they are the ones that dictate the prices, which are extremely important.
Other than that, I don't see any big problems with having a big central shop. Sure, it's not as realistic as privately owned shops (which yes, I do enjoy having), but this IS minecraft. And as far as giving money value and creating a strong flow of money within the server goes, the central shop fits the bill.
Some notes. With the ability to sell items instantly to the shop, players are DIRECTLY in control of their money. With user shops, players have to wait and sometimes hope for customers to pass through and spend money. The wealthiest person will not be the person with the most successful shop, but the person who can gather the most materials to sell the the server shop. Again, I'm not entirely for or against this. IF we do implement something like this, I REALLY THINK that the auto-income should be completely taken out. As long as there is an auto-income, the server money supply is rising which calls for price changes. We won't have to worry about players going totally broke because anyone can easily make a couple bucks chopping down some nearby wood.
I somehow feel like there is something major that I'm overlooking. As of now, however, I can't think of a serious flaw.
Side note: I don't see why we have to abandon the creative plot idea. In addition to giving money value (which will already be done with the server shop), I think it's a good way to introduce creative to all the people in the server.

Ok, but I don't see why would would need to get rid of user shops? Why take that away from the few people that want it? It's not causing any problems...? You didn't really state any good reasons as to why we should do away with them. You said "People are too lazy to run their shop properly." So? Just add a server run shop as well, we don't need to completely do away with user shops. It's not doing any harm if someone doesn't restock their shop or something like that...

Well, consider this:
pigpenguin said Wrote:Consider this example: At a shop, an iron ingot costs 8 dollars. At the server shop, it's 13 dollars. If the sell price at the server shop is also 13 dollars, why would the shop owner even bother stocking it if he can get more money from the server shop?
Ther is no point in players selling things cheaper than the shop since they'll get more money out of the shop, and anything above the shops prices won't be sold. Along with the fact that only two people still run shops without the server run shop. There's really no point in keeping this feature just to make one person happy.

It's not like user shops will be forbidden or anything. It's just that with the server shop, you and I wouldn't want to keep selling iron ingots when we could instantly get MORE money for them at the server shop. If you want to sell items for less money than you could, be my guest. Something tells me, however, that you wouldn't want to do that XD
Like I said in my previous post, user run shops could still sell certain things, just not the things that are in the server shop. I'm thinking the server shop could sell raw or slightly refined items (such as stone and wood) while our user shops can sell crafted items. Don't get me wrong, such a shop would change A LOT. I just wanted to point out that we can still have our shops to run.

What if the buying prices to the shops weren't the same as the sell prices? That would give a range where it would not be more profitable for shop owners to sell their goods to the server shop, but they could conceivably sell their items for less than the server shop is selling for. Also, keep in mind that any items sold to the server shop literally disappear from the server, if I understand correctly that the server shop would have infinite supply.

Yeah, but Fire, why would you make the sell price the same as the buy price? That doesn't make much sense. If you were going to allow a server shop to buy things, it would be logical to make the buying price about half the selling price...
Plus, when I talked to EP, he was planning on the server shop to sell hard or impossible to obtain items, like records (the broken one), dragon eggs, etc.

That also sounds like a good plan as long as there are more than 2-3 shop owners on the server. As I said before, I may change my mind about all of this, but for now, I like where this is heading. I can't wait to see it implemented.

That's what I thought the server shop was going to be like also. But I think its worthwhile to explore other variations of the server shop. One thing that's important to realize is that the more items the server shop sells, the more we can trust our money. Selling only rare items should succeed in clearing away people's excess money in addition to giving money value. Selling other things will give money even MORE value and trust.

To be honest, the reason why I at first said this was because i didnt see the point of the shop screwing over people when the money wasn't going anywhere, but I see now that making the sell price 50-75% of the buy price is a much better option. Also, I disagree with only rare items being sold at the shop. It wouldn't keep our econemy stable unless it was a normal shop in which we could trade nearly every item. This way, Inflation would be literally nonexistent. No one would raise prices higher than the server shop.
