Hmm, I'd be all for it.
People who feel awkward about talking over the internet don't have to use it.
On the other hand it may lead to some people being left out if others start to ignore text chat while using voice chat... it does happen.

The point of voice chat is being able to chat with people without having to type. Therefore, they keep their MC window open and can talk to multiple people at once.
